This study highlights the gender dynamics community health workers (CHWs), and the challenges and facilitators they experience in their service delivery in the conflict ravaged country of Afghanistan. Though more than half of the CHWs are female, among Supervisor & Trainer, Health managers and Policy Makers the female representation is marginal or nil. While volunteerism and the community involvement is the facilitating factor, retention of CHWs, their recruitment are the major challenge. The study concludes that CHWs play an important role in Health system strengthening in the conflict ridden country of  Afghanistan.
