This study presents the utility of a syndemics theory approach to understanding HIV risk practices in high-risk MSM populations and reports that demographic factors, childhood maltreatment experiences, substance use/abuse, psychological/ psychosocial functioning, and attitudes toward risk taking are all relevant to understanding risk taking, and they are interrelated in a highly complex manner.
