The paper is a critical discourse, which deconstructs the concept of ‘cultural competency’, based on Bourdieu’s model of reflexivity. Here, the authors have viewed culture competency as a colonizing force within biomedical practice that arises from reluctance to subject different categories of medical experience to cross cultural comparison. Using two case studies, the authors have built a model that distinguishes between cultural competency and cultural capital.
